9. "Microsoft Delays Key Virtualization Software,"
PC World, April 12
Microsoft is delaying the release of a beta of virtualization technology for Windows Server as well as a service pack for existing virtualization software, citing the need to meet performance and scalability goals. The public beta of the virtualization technology, code-named Viridian, is now expected to be out in the second half of the year instead of the first half. The service pack was expected out by now. A release candidate of the service pack, which will be a code-complete update to the beta 2, will be available for download later this month, according to Microsoft.
10. "Vonage CEO Resigns; Company Moves to Cut Costs,"
Computerworld, April 12
It wasn't a big surprise to hear on Thursday that Vonage CEO Michael Snyder had resigned effective Wednesday, given all the turmoil the company is undergoing these days. Chairman Jeffrey Citron is taking over the CEO helm until a replacement can be found. The company, which is involved in a patent-infringement case with Verizon that has left its future in question, also announced it is restructuring to curb losses. The company reported a $286 million net loss last year and a $261 million loss in 2005, although its revenue soared to $607 million from $269 million in 2005. However, the expensive and ongoing legal battle with Verizon could change that upward momentum. A federal court last month ordered Vonage to pay Verizon $58 million for infringing three Verizon patents, and a jury said Vonage also has to pay royalties to Verizon on future sales.
