IBM plans to add Baidu.com’s hard-disk search technology in Lotus Notes as part of a technology partnership, the two companies announced Wednesday.
Baidu’s hard-disk search technology (Japanese) can be used to search for information in Chinese and English. Adding the technology to Lotus Notes will give users better search capabilities for Chinese-language information, the two companies said. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
IBM is the latest company to strike a partnership with Baidu. Last month, the search provider announced a deal with Intel to jointly develop search technology for laptops, mobile phones and home PCs. Further details of that partnership are expected to be announced at a later date.
Baidu, which is China’s most popular Internet search engine, also has a partnership with Nokia for mobile search in China.
IDG News Service’s parent company, International Data Group, is an investor in Baidu through its venture-capital arm, IDG Ventures.
