Hewlett-Packard (HP) had the largest share of the Indian PC market in the Indian fiscal year that ended March 31, research firm IDC (India) announced Sunday.
In the client PC market, which includes both notebook and desktop PCs, HP had an 18 percent marketshare, followed by an Indian vendor, HCL Infosystems with 14 percent. Lenovo Group followed with 9 percent.
HP’s lead came from its strong showing in the notebook segment of the market, where it had the highest share, said Piyush Pushkal, senior market analyst for PC research at IDC India. In desktops, HCL was the largest vendor, according to IDC India.
The country’s PC market grew 30 percent to more than 4.6 million shipments for the year ending March 31. Increased purchasing by the government and medium-sized businesses led to the increase, according to IDC. The highest year-on-year growth was in notebook PCs at 168 percent, IDC said. Growth in consumer desktops was 33 percent, while in commercial desktops it was 15 percent.
Unbranded PCs still constitute a major chunk of the market, Pushkal said.
