Klout, the social-media influencer scoring service, overhauled its website a couple of months ago. Its iOS app just got a makeover to sync its functionality and interface up with the website. The free app is definitely an improvement, but it’s still not entirely on par with Klout.com.
You can now view stories in a news stream on the website and within the app. Stories are selected based on your Klout topics, which reflect what you follow and post on the social media networks you link to Klout.
When you view a story summary, you can swipe up on it in the app to share it on Facebook or Twitter. You can also edit the default post update’s text to add, say, hashtags for tweets.
You’re not limited to sharing other people’s content, however; you can create a post from scratch, online or in the app. You can also use the app to easily share pictures in your iPhone’s camera roll. On the Klout site, you click an "Upload Photo" button.
Klout’s website and app let you schedule social media updates. That’s a nice feature, but not a unique one; social media dashboards such as Hootsuite and Buffer have offered the feature for a while.
Though Klout’s app and website are much more equal now, the feature set isn’t entirely identical. For example, the website’s Measure feature lets you view the impact score Klout assigns to your posts, so you can understand which updates were more popular than others. This feature isn’t in the app.
Also, though you can access Klout Perks from the website or app, the app isn’t as current as the site. As I was writing this review, I received an email informing me I’d received a Klout perk from Moo.com for 50 personalized business cards. The perk was available for claiming on the Klout site, but not in the app.
Kudos to Klout for adding more functionality to its site and app. Now, how about Android and iPad versions?
