I've never been a huge Corvette fan, and while I do like some of the older classic models, the last 30 years or so has left me feeling pretty flat over this car. The designs have never really inspired me, and yes I like the horsepower, but for the price, there are other cars that inspire me more. Hey, G.M. has never been known for it's cutting-edge ideas.
This is the first Corvette in a long time I am seriously excited about, and it may have just moved into my 'maybe' purchase list, once I convince myself I can actually afford it. And at this point, with G.M. coming out of bankruptcy, and with poor sales, this 7th gen 2014 Corvette needs to be a home run, and it just may be.
The specs are impressive. It has a 6.2-liter small-block LT1 V-8 that puts out about 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. It has a aluminum chassis, carbon fiber hood and roof and nano-scale carbon composite underbody to keep the weight around 3,300 pounds. It runs zero to 60 m.p.h. in less than four seconds. The Corvette will be in showrooms late summer 2013, with a estimated base price of around $56,000, about $5,000 more than a current base-model coupe.
