Google Naps Maps the World's Snooze-Worthy Resting Spots

If you're looking for a comfy bench, bed, bridge, or field, Google Naps has you covered. (Until they get sued into Oblivion, that is.)

Google Maps helps wanderers get where they need to go, be it by foot, car, or whatever publish transportation's available. But geez, all that traveling can get tiresome. If you've been walking your kicks down Route 66 and just want to find a place to rest your head and catch 40 winks, well, that's where Google Naps comes in. Yes, Google Naps.

This amusing distraction by a pair of Dutch users taps into Google Maps and the power of the crowd to identify the coziest nap spots around, be it a bench, bed, field, or bridge. Folks who leave a suggestion can also leave a brief note explaining what makes the spot so alluring for sleepy travelers.

Alas, the site's so new that most locales have few or no napping spots identified, though some cities already have numerous suggestions available. And even if Google Naps does become chock full of benches, bridges, and fields, it's probably more useful for a laugh and some insight into calm places in your neighborhood than being a truly helpful guide for nodding-off narcoleptics.

So how did creators Kakhiel and Venour get permission from Google to use the Google name? Um, they didn't. Hovering your mouse over the red question mark in the lower-right corner reveals the following disclaimer:

"Dear Sergey and Larry (and other Googlers)

Hello, please don't be mad this is just a joke, a parody. We don't mean to damage your brand or anything, we just want to bring a smile on the faces of Google fans. So please don't take this to court, we only have a few hundred Euros in the bank. And we also don't want to go to jail because we're too busy with other things at the moment. But whenever you are in the Netherlands you can have a nap on our couch if you want, just e-mail us: kakhiel@gmail.com. We can also make coffee and bake eggs if you like that (for a small price)."

Eggs, coffee, and a nap? Even the most tenacious of lawyers couldn't turn down that combination.A
