Engineering company Atkins has appointed John Drever as innovation director in its communications business.
Drever, who has been at Atkins since 2007, will be responsible for setting up and managing an innovation centre in Atkins' communications division. The centre will encourage, capture, evaluate and commercialise innovative ideas.
Geoff Ball, managing director of Atkins' communications business, said: "Our engineers are already coming up with game changing solutions to some of the world's biggest engineering projects, whether it's biometrics or the next generation of broadband. The innovation director role will help us capture these ideas and turn them into viable solutions that will help our clients future proof their business."
According to his LinkedIn profile, Drever was most recently software assurance services business manager, responsible for the part of the Atkins group providing software assurance services to the company's core markets, which include aerospace, rail and defense.
Other roles at Atkins include defense portfolio director from 2009 to 2012 and information services director of intelligent transport systems.
Prior to joining Atkins, Drever held a range of positions at defence firm BAE Systems, including head of product and capability devleopment.
