CA Technologies today announced plans to buy Hyperformix, which makes capacity management software for physical, virtual and cloud IT infrastructures. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Capacity management tools enable customers to determine how hardware, software, storage and network resources are being used and what resources will be needed in the future. The technology also helps customers optimize the deployment of those resources to meet business objectives, CA says.
The combination CA's virtualization management and automation technologies with those of Hyperformix is aimed at helping companies move beyond the initial stages of virtualization when roughly 20% to 30% of servers are virtual – a hurdle that often stalls more widespread rollouts.
“At these preliminary stages, fundamental disciplines like capacity management are critically important. While we have been able to provide some capacity planning capabilities, particularly with our Service Assurance solutions, Hyperformix will give our customers sophisticated real-time and predictive capacity management capabilities,” said Andi Mann, CA’s vice president of virtualization product marketing, a blog post. “This will help our customers to extend their virtualization by leaps and bounds, especially if they are still in the early- to mid-stages of their deployments.”
Hyperformix is the latest in a string of companies CA has acquired, including cloud computing solutions provider 3Tera, data center automation vendor Cassatt, network and systems management player NetQoS, IT service management vendor Nimsoft, service-level management technology maker Oblicore, and cloud authentication vendor Arcot Systems.
The Hyperformix transaction is expected to close during CA’s third fiscal quarter, which ends December 31. Hyperformix’ operations and its employees will become part of the virtualization and automation business at CA.
