Vendor Management Office Job Descriptions & Expectations

One company's plans for staffing and training their VMO.

Full-fledged vendor management offices are not one-person, fly-by-night operations. They take planning, resources, staffing and committment.

These job descriptions were developed by a CIO Executive Council member from a large company for use in staffing its vendor management office. They cover the following positions:

  • Manager of the VMO
  • Vendor relationship manager
  • Vendor analyst
  • Senior vendor analyst
  • VMO Roles and Responsibilities

In addition, there are skill expectations checklists with a rating system for vendor manager and analyst positions, which cover skills such as negotiation, collaboration and communication.
