AOL, Time Warner’s Internet arm, on Thursday announced deals with 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group that will see the Web giant offer downloads of the studios’ films via its online video locale, and they’ll sell for between $9.99 and $19.99, the Associated Press reports via MSN Money.
Financial details related to the pacts were not disclosed, according to the AP.
The digital film downloads AOL will offer won’t be able to be burned to DVD; rather, users will have to watch them on computers or handhelds, the AP reports.
Fox Entertainment Group and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will also offer television programming via AOL on branded channels that will be available through its AOL Video Web programming application, according to the AP.
AOL will sell Fox content on five stations over the coming months, on which shows like Prison Break and Buffy the Vampire Slayer will play, the AP reports. Sony will provide content for two on-demand television channels that will offer programming free of charge—they’ll be ad-supported—within a few months, and Web surfers will be able to view shows like Charlie’s Angels, Starsky & Hutch and other sitcoms on the Sony stations, according to the AP.
