Motorola, a maker of handsets, on Friday said it will purchase Good Technology, a producer of mobile software, for an undisclosed amount, Reuters reports.
Good Technology competes with Research In Motion (RIM) and its popular BlackBerry push e-mail service, according to Reuters.
The two firms currently have a business relationship related to mobile messaging, and the acquisition is meant to boost Motorola’s mobile computing offerings and increase its customer base, Reuters reports.
Silicon Valley-based Good Technology over the past six years has taken in more than $200 million in backing from such funds as Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, among others, according to Reuters.
The deal is expected to be finalized in early 2007, Reuters reports.
