Apple did a great job with the Apple Watch but, like any other device, it's not quite perfect. From time to time you may find it necessary to restart your Apple Watch, and I'll show you how to do that in this tip.
There are actually two ways you can restart your Apple Watch. You can do a regular restart, or you can force your Apple Watch to restart. I'll cover both methods below.
How to restart your Apple Watch
To restart your Apple Watch, follow these steps:
1. Press and hold the side button on your Apple Watch.
2. When the sliders appear, slide the Power Off button to the right.
3. Your Apple Watch will turn itself off.
4. To turn the watch back on, press the side button until you see the Apple logo.
Note that when you press and hold the side button to access the power off screen, you'll also have the option to put your Apple Watch into Power Reserve mode or to lock it. Power Reserve mode shuts down everything except the ability to display the time on your watch. It can be useful if you are running low on power.
How to force restart your Apple Watch
To force a restart of your Apple Watch, follow these steps:
1. Press and hold the side button and digital crown at the same time, for ten seconds.
2. You will see the Apple logo appear.
3. Once the restart is complete, the Apple logo will go away and you'll see your watchface.
For the most part I have not needed to restart my Apple Watch. It has proven to be a very stable device that seems to work for long periods of time without any intervention on my part.
So you probably won't need to restart your Apple Watch very often. But it's a good idea to know exactly how to do it if you run into a problem that freezes your watch or otherwise necessitates a restart.
