iOS 9: How to adjust 3D Touch sensitivity

Change how hard you need to press to activate 3D Touch in iOS 9

3D Touch is one of the best new features in iOS 9 for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. 3D Touch lets you press down on your screen to activate additional features such as menus, shortcuts, etc. It adds a whole new wrinkle to using your iPhone.

But did you know that you can adjust the amount of force needed to activate 3D Touch? The default setting for 3D Touch is Medium in iOS 9, but you can quickly change that and I'll show you how in this tip.

You can easily change amount of pressure needed to activate 3D Touch in iOS 9 by choosing Light, Medium or Firm on the 3D Touch settings page in Accessibility.

Here's how you can quickly adjust the sensitivity of 3D Touch in iOS 9:

1. Tap on Settings.
2. Tap on General.
3. Tap on Accessibility.
4. Tap on 3D Touch.
5. You can change the setting to Light, Medium or Firm.

I decided to use the Light setting since that requires much less pressure on the screen of your iPhone 6s or 6s Plus to activate 3D Touch. But you should experiment to see which setting works for you. You can test each setting right on the 3D Touch settings page until you find the one that works best for your hands.

3D Touch makes iOS feel new again

I bought an iPhone 6s after I decided that I needed to switch to a smaller phone from my iPhone 6 Plus. And so far I've been really enjoying 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s. It's terrific to be able to press down on app icons on my iPhone 6s home screen and use shortcuts to various features.

For example, Day One is my favorite journaling app and it was just updated to include 3D Touch. So now I can press down on the Day One icon on my home screen and easily skip to the Last Photo, Add Photo or New Entry. I don't even have to open the app first to do these things.

3D Touch also works great in Safari. I can press down on the Safari icon on my home screen and choose to skip to Show Reading List, Show Bookmarks, New Private Tab or New Tab. It makes it much easier and faster to access certain things. I can also use 3D Touch to press down on a link in Safari and preview the web page without having to tap through to see it.

Once you get used to using 3D Touch in iOS 9 on the iPhone 6s or 6s Plus you'll wonder how you lived without it. It's that much of a game-changer.
