Will Apple let iOS users rename Siri?

It's way past time for Apple to let iOS users change Siri's name. Users should be able to say "Hey Jarvis" or "Hey Whoever" to activate Siri on their iOS devices

Siri has been around a long time now in iOS, but the name has never really clicked with me. The word "Siri" just doesn't roll of my tongue very well and it seems incredibly bland and almost totally lacks personality. I doubt I'm alone in feeling this way, and it got me wondering: will Apple ever let users rename Siri?

iOS users can already customize Siri in some ways

Frankly, I can't think of a single reason why Apple shouldn't let users rename Siri. The company certainly has the programming resources to add a name customization option to Siri in iOS. After all, you can already choose between a male or female voice, and you can even choose different accents.

For example, if you choose English as Siri's language, you can choose American, Australian or British accents for Siri. My preference is the male voice, with an Australian accent. I love Australian accents and I prefer a masculine voice to the feminine.

If you want to change Siri's accent, here's how you can do it:

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Tap on General.

3. Tap on Siri.

4. Tap on Siri Voice.

5. Tap on the Accent and Gender options to change Siri to suit your preferences.

Apple also lets users manage voice feedback in Siri's controls. You can choose to have Siri "Always On" or "Control with Ring Switch" or "Hands-Free Only." So it's clear that the company doesn't mind iOS users customizing how Siri works or what he sounds like on their iPhones, iPads or iPod touches.

So why not add a name change option to Siri's controls? I can't imagine that it would take much effort on Apple's part and it would probably make some iOS users very happy indeed. Sometimes a small change like that can please a lot of people in an unexpected way.

Apple should add name customization to Siri in a future iOS release

It remains to be seen if Apple will ever allow iOS users to change Siri's name. But if it's a feature you want, be sure to visit Apple's feedback page and send them a request. It never hurts to politely ask for a new option to be added to an existing feature like Siri.

Who knows if they'll ever do it, but the more people they hear from the more likely it is that someday we'll be able to say "Hey Jarvis" or "Hey Ozzy" or "Hey Whoever" to activate Siri on our iOS devices. And I'd like that a heck of a lot more than saying "Hey Siri."

Stranger things have happened. You never know.
