THE NEXT GREAT IPHONE

Apple is expected to roll out its next flagship smartphones, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, in the fall of 2016. But the creative minds of designers from around the world aren’t waiting to put forth their visions for what the new iPhones might look like and include for features. Here’s a look at the best we’ve seen so far…

(MORE: Designers have actually been coming up with iPhone 7 concepts since at least 2014.

Sonicdat has a big idea here: push a button and triple the screen size of the iPhone 7, with carbon fiber arms and a flexible display.

BORDERLESS, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON IOS 10

This video from iPhone-Tricks.com puts its focus on a borderless display and a flexible iOS 10 that enables the user to customize the space to the max. The home button disappears when not being used...

STREAMLINED SMARTPHONE

This model courtesy of Geert Van Uffelen is all about the sleekness (2.5D screen) -- and the plinky piano music!

SHINY HAPPY IPHONE

The prolific designer Arthur Reis has put forth this iPhone 7 design, with video editing by the equally prolific Ran Avni. The concept shines with different colors and a polished stainless steel body, not to mention a strong sapphire screen. Inside, Reis envisions a 4x faster CPU and GPU, both protected by a watertight seal.

AMOLED AND MORE

Here’s one more from Arthur Reis, who shared this concept design video on aptly named ConceptsiPhone YouTube channel, featuring a vision of the next iPhone with an AMOLED display, super-thin body, Bluetooth AirPods by Beats, an Inductive ChargingPad and more. If you’re an Apple fanboy or fangirl, I’m pretty sure you want one of these.

iPHONE 7 EDGE

This concept video from ConceptsiPhone and SCAVidsHD technically debuted late in 2015, but I figured it was still worth including in here, for originality's sake. It’s a review of the iPhone 7 Edge – a non-existent device with a name that obviously borrows from Samsung’s Galaxy Edge products. But that didn’t stop these guys from showcasing this 5.5-inch phone with a 2K curved display, A10 chip, surround sound speakers and more.

APPLE VIRTUAL REALITY

Christopher Grayson shows off his vision for Apple virtual reality in this post on Giganti.co. Grayson, CEO and chief creative officer of the Christopher Grayson label, builds on rumors of iPhone 7 gaining a dual-camera setup to suggest iPhones are in a perfect spot to rule the VR market given that they are already so good at creating content as cameras. Grayson runs through the history of stereoscopic cards and 3D images and View-Masters, before showcasing what a VR-enabled iPhone might look like.

LIQUIDMETAL & MORE

It's been way too long since we've had a good Liquidmetal rumor. Apple has had an exclusive license with the maker of this wondrous alloy for years now, promising ever stronger, possibly waterproof, ever more magical smartphones. Herman Haidin's Phone Essence design concept embraces Liquidmetal as a layer serving as the device's base cooling system.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE IPHONE 5SE

Curved/labs shares images of what it anticipates the iPhone 5se (4-inch phone), iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus phablet could look like, with highlights being a double camera on the big phone, and a rather more pinkish color option than the usual Rose Gold variety offered by Apple.
