HP has maintained partnerships with VMware, Citrix and other virtualization vendors since at least 2003, and offered virtualization on its own servers and Unix variant as well.
Why It's Significant
As a leading server vendor, HP has spread the love among the competitors in the virtualization market, not taking favorites or competing too directly with its own products. As the focus in server virtualization shifts to increasingly sophisticated management and to desktop virtualization, HP may focus more on selling its own products and integration and support services rather than on its current allies.
