Nigeria's Globacom has launched telecommunication services in Cotonou, the commercial center of neighboring country Benin.
While Benin is the first site for Globacom beyond Nigeria, Chairman Mike Adenuga Jr. said at the launch of the Benin service, with prefix 98, that the company plans to continue additional expansion in other countries soon.
The event at the Hotel Marina in Cotonou saw dignitaries drawn from both Nigeria and Benin, including Minister of State for Information and Communication Alhaji Dasuki Ibrahim Nakande and Nigerian Communications Commission Executive Vice Chairman Ernest Ndukwe
Globacom entered the market in Nigeria in August 2003 with a per-second billing system based on 2.5G technology.
The telco has since migrated to 3G (third-generation) services, including services for BlackBerry users, multimedia, voice and SMS (Short Message Service).
