Micro-Star International's (MSI) low-cost Wind laptop will get its formal European launch at this week's IFA electronics show in Berlin, the company said Wednesday.
The Wind U100 laptop, which was first unveiled in May in Taiwan, will cost ¬399 (US$584) and be available in white, pink and black. It will also be accompanied by a Wind desktop PC, which will also launch at IFA and cost ¬249 in Europe, MSI said.
The Wind laptop is based on a 1.6GHz version of Intel's Atom processor, has a 10-inch screen with WSVGA (Wide Super Video Graphics Array) resolution (1,024 pixels by 600 pixels) and an 80G-byte hard-disk drive. There laptop has Bluetooth and a 802.11b/g wireless LAN, a card reader, 3 USB (Universal Serial Bus) ports and a webcam. The machine measures 26 centimeters by 18cms by 31cms and weighs 940 grams.
The Wind desktop computer is based on the same 1.6GHz version of the Atom processor but comes with a 320G-byte SATA (Serial ATA) hard-disk drive and a DVD optical disc burner drive. It also has six USB ports.
The laptop comes with Windows XP Home preinstalled while the desktop is based on Suse Linux 10.
