Just as mobile users thought that their providers had outdone each other in terms of pricing, Zain Uganda has come to the market with something totally new.
Zain's Unlimited Calls offers customers free in-network calling every day between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
In the past, mobile operators had only offered users free calls at off-peak hours, when there is little traffic on their networks.
With this new Zain offering, customers will be required to top up 2,000 Ugandan shillings (US$1.05) of airtime and register for the service each day they want to use it.
"Any Zain prepaid customer will be allowed to opt in on a daily basis," explained Zain Uganda marketing executive Verenar Rugumire. "At 6 p.m., the free Zain-to-Zain calls automatically stop applying, and a customer will revert to your regular tariff plan."
After opting in, customers can make an unlimited number of free in-network calls over the course of 12 hours, she said.
"This will help customers to really manage their operating costs, especially if they need to communicate frequently and for long periods during the day," Rugumire added.
