AmberPoint is adding on Monday problem resolution capabilities to its self-named application management platform. Version 6.5 of AmberPoint Management System features what the company calls "Business Transaction Safety Net."
"It basically allows you to rapidly locate and resolve problems you have with business transactions," said Ed Horst, vice president of marketing at AmberPoint, which has made Web services and SOA management a key element of its software for several years. AmberPoint can be used for these purposes as well as for pure Java or .Net application management.
Business Transaction Safety Net tackles the problem of recording a transaction history. Users can search for a specific problem that has been reported, Horst said.
Features of Business Transaction Safety Net include:
* Active transaction recording, enabled through visibility into business content of messages. Information such as order numbers and customer ID can be logged.
* Transaction search engine, providing a console to locate specific transactions.
* Transaction visibility toolkit, a platform-neutral protocol and SDK to augment transaction data. It extends AmberPoint capabilities to home-grown applications, legacy systems and vertical solutions.

"One of AmberPoint's key value propositions is its ability to track transactions and notify administrators about transactions that do not complete or that complete with errors," said analyst Julie Craig, research director for application management at Enterprise Management Associates. "With today's massively distributed applications and services, this is a significant value proposition, and many IT organizations do not have tools that do this effectively."
AmberPoint has added support for such platforms as Apache ServiceMix, JBoss Application Server, Oracle WebLogic Server 10, and SAP NetWeaver clusters. The company also is announcing integration with the IBM DataPower SOA appliance.
