CIO — BlackBerry smartphones and businesspeople go together like, well, office-printers and toner. But BlackBerrys and soccer moms??

Author Kathy Buckworth says BlackBerry devices and busy mothers are a match made in homemaker-heaven, and she's sharing lessons learned from her experience using a BlackBerry over the past year to enhance her and her children's lives in the new book "The BlackBerry Diaries: Adventures in Modern Motherhood."

"My BlackBerry, whom I affectionately call my fifth child, 'Seamus', has been my saving grace for not only managing my family's increasingly complex schedule but also giving me a moment or two of peace and connection to the outside world," says Buckworth, in a press release. "As families try to maintain sanity while juggling their kids' lives with carpool schedules, soccer practice, and ballet rehearsals, I'm excited to share tips on how technology can help keep mom organized and somewhat stress-free."

Buckworth is currently promoting her book, which is available online, along with Verizon Wireless and Research In Motion (RIM). Folks who attend her book-tour events get a chance to take home a free Verizon BlackBerry of their choiceeither a BlackBerry Tour 9630, Storm 9530, Pearl Flip 8230 or Curve 8330. (Hint: If you end up being one of the lucky winners, take the Tour.)

Buckworth's next stop? The North Point Mall in Alpharette, Ga., outside Atlanta, where she'll discuss the book on Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17, 2009, from 3 PM to 5 PM.

The book and related tour are notable because they represents another way in which RIM, once thought of as just a boring, conservative company that catered only to businesspeople, is successfully infiltrating the consumer ranks and securing loyal customers from all walks of life.

Additional information on Buckworth, her book and the associated tour is available on The BlackBerry Diaries Blog.
