Ning CEO Gina Bianchini is stepping down after five years at the helm of the social networking company, but she won't be going far from company Chairman Marc Andreessen: She's joining his venture capital firm as an entrepreneur in residence.

Network World — Ning CEO Gina Bianchini is stepping down after five years at the helm of the social networking company, but she won't be going far from company Chairman Marc Andreessen: She's joining his venture capital firm as an entrepreneur in residence.

Andreessen, in a post on Ning's blog Monday, said his Ning co-founder is handing over the reins to current COO Jason Rosenthal. Rosenthal first worked with Andreessen while both were at Netscape, Andreessen's first big startup.

Under Bianchini's watch, Ning has quietly grown to support some 2.3 million user-created mini Diggs or Facebooks focused on everything from Cisco Systems to the New Kids on the Block. At an MIT event in 2008 she described Ning as "the largest social network site you never heard of."
