In case you haven't noticed, there's been a significant uptick this year in the number of data breaches reported by businesses and government - RSA, Sony PlayStation Network, Epsilon, Citigroup (C), etc. It's not clear whether the increase in reports is due to an increase in the number of the attacks or whether it's an indication that legal and regulatory requirements are forcing more reporting or whether the media is more focused on writing about them.
