Network World — News reports out of Charlotte, N.C., indicate a "known suspect" swiped 25 iPhones from an Apple Store at Northlake Mall between Dec. 1 and Jan. 11.

The Charlotte Observer and WCNC cite a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report that reads: "The iPhones were stolen from the Genius Room located inside the store. The suspect did have access to the Genius Room."

APPLE IPHONEYS: The iPhone 5 editionA

The booty: $16,425 worth of devices, including 22 16GB iPhone 4S models, one 32GB 4S, one 64GB 4S, and one 8GB iPhone 4 model.

The alleged crime was reported to police on Monday.

Not surprisingly, there's a booming business in stolen Apple products these days. The list goes on, but here are a few current examples, and a couple more from last year:

*The New York Post reported Wednesday that an 81-year-old man was shoved onto the tracks at a Brooklyn subway station after chasing a teen who allegedly stole his iPhone.A

*An Australian news site reported today that a mother and daughter were fined after stealing an iPhone from a patron of Rose City Shoppingworld, with police and mall staff using "Find My Phone" technology to track the device down.A

*Last summer, the FBI reported arrests of three mall cellphone kiosk workers in the Washington, D.C., area for allegedly buying stolen iPhones and other Apple products, and reselling them for a profit.A

*About a year ago, a woman was nabbed at Ben-Gurion Airport trying to smuggle 44 iPhones into Israel.A

On average, a new wireless device, complete with its own quirks and running on an increasingly sophisticated array of operating systems, reaches the market every 45 days. Even now, wireless smart devices are replacing cumbersome equipment once thought indispensable to business, enabling employees to choose the tools they are most comfortable with to perform their duties. This revolution impacts the corporate network as devices and people jump on and off the network throughout the day. Enterprises that are not prepared for the tidal wave of wireless devices massing in the market will not only fail to realize the benefits of the BYOD revolution; their networks will be crippled. Read this informative white paper for ways to meet the needs of your users powered by the new wireless enterprise.

Enterprise mobility: Most IT leaders say it's transformational, strategic. But only 18% said in a recent study that they have a comprehensive strategy for mobility. The problem: Lack of expertise, time and resources, among other issues.
A recent IDG survey of businesses with 100-500 employees reveals data security is the top barrier to supporting employees' mobile devices. This KnowledgeVault highlights survey results and explores how IT leaders are dealing with issues from encrypting mobile data without impacting performance and remotely disabling devices, to dealing with the Apple App Store for iPad and iPhone apps.
The convenient portability and high functionality of consumer devices combined with the ability to connect to the Internet almost anywhere and at any time are resulting in a growing mobile workforce realizing important productivity benefits - right at the point of contact with customers and partners.
