Is Google Drive Ready for Prime Time?

One reporter said the belated arrival of Google Drive meant that it missed its window of opportunity to capitalize on the market. Others argue that Google Drive does not show enough to differentiate itself from competitors, especially Microsoft Skydrive and Dropbox.

Network World — In summing up the experts' thoughts, Network World's Brad Reed put it rather succinctly about the emergence of Google Drive: "We like it, but couldn't it have been released two years ago?"

One reporter said the belated arrival of Google Drive meant that it missed its window of opportunity to capitalize on the market. Others argue that Google Drive does not show enough to differentiate itself from competitors, especially Microsoft Skydrive and Dropbox.

To try and stave off Google, Dropbox boosted its free storage limit to 5GB. And Microsoft added the ability to store files online and sync across multiple devices right from your Windows or OS X desktop. That puts SkyDrive squarely in competition with Dropbox and Drive, five years after Microsoft first introduced its online storage solution in 2007.
