Q) Who has won this award in the past?
A) This awards program is produced by the global peer advisory community CIO Executive Council, and presented by CIO magazine. To see the honorees from 2005 through 2012, visit here.
Q) What is the significance of the award? What does it represent?
A) The CIO Ones to Watch Award honors the rising stars in IT—the senior staff destined to become the CIOs of the future—as identified and sponsored by the CIOs of today's leading organizations. Council members believe that developing the next generation of IT leaders is essential to IT's ability to add real and sustained value to the enterprise. Yet research shows that CIOs do not spend enough time and attention on this. Through this award, we honor those who do and showcase how they do it. Second, this award will ensure that we stay in touch with the people who are leading the profession as they advance in their careers. Finally, it is a way for us to serve our readers and members by helping them recognize their key staff in a positive and public way.
To be eligible, nominees must not now, or ever have been, the top head of IT in any organization.
Q) When and where will the awards ceremony be held?
A) The 2013 CIO Ones to Watch Awards will be presented during a special reception, dinner and awards presentation in May 2013, at the CIO Leadership Event.
Q) What are the criteria for winning a Ones to Watch Award?
A) Applications are judged by a panel of veteran CIOs who are experienced in leadership development and preparing today's senior IT leaders to be tomorrow's successful CIOs. Specific criteria include:

A) There are generally 20-25 award winners each year.

A) Our judges are leading IT executives from a variety of industries, all members of the CIO Executive Council. For 2012, they included:
Q) How do I apply? What is the deadline?
Click on "Access on-line 2013 nomination form" at www.cio.com/cio-awards/ones-to-watch/index. Applicants may nominate themselves, but all nominees must be sponsored by a current CIO or equivalent at their company (the top IT leader). People who are currently CIOs or have been CIOs (or the top corporate IT leader) are not eligible for this award. Nomination forms must be completed in full or will be disqualified. Maximum detail is encouraged. The deadline for nominations is Nov. 1, 2012.
