2007 Winner Profile

Best Buy

  • Project Description: Best Buy's Purchase Path system merges the capabilities of numerous customer data analysis tools, allowing the company to track product sales in multiple ways: within a single transaction, across multiple transactions over time, by customer segments or geographic location. One way Best Buy uses this tool is to examine customer behavior at a macro level and anticipate trends in future purchases. The company is then able to optimize product placement in its stores and create product bundles. For example, if Best Buy knows a customer is likely to buy a certain set of headphones after he purchases a specific laptop, it may offer the two products together, resulting in fewer return visits for the customer and better overall satisfaction.
