  • Project Description: Hannaford replaced its manual store inventory ordering processes with an automated system that uses computer-generated forecasts. The Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) system integrates information about sales, stock levels, shelf capacity and forecast demand. In a pilot program, the company reduced its level of out-of-stock items by 50 percent and achieved a 2.1 percent increase in sales with relatively flat inventory levels.
