2008 Winner Profile
Con-way
- Project Description: Con-way designed a system to manage freight movement and dock operations in order to reduce the dock coordinators' planning time. Dock coordinators used to spend two hours per shift assigning trailers to the doors where forklift operators would unload them. Step Saver uses a mathematical model to automate the process. The system reduced planning time for the dock coordinators by 35 percent and increased pounds moved per man-hour by 5.3 percent for an annual savings of approximately $3 million dollars.
