- Project Description: Sentara Healthcare deployed its wireless phone project to improve communication in its hospitals, where staff is often widely dispersed and not always near a phone or PC. The wireless phones are integrated with the nurse call system, so that when a patient presses his nurse call button, the caregiver's phone rings. Patient rooms are also set up to enable monitoring equipment to send alerts directly to cargivers phones. The $1.5 million project makes use of the hospital systems 802.11 wireless infrastructure. Company leaders expect the project to pay for itself within two years.
