- Project Description: Indiana University uses open-source software to create a Web-based environment that fosters learning and collaboration. Using the Oncourse CL application, students and faculty have access to course syllabi and grades; can communicate via e-mail, chat rooms and discussion forums; and take quizzes and surveys. Another platform provides a portfolio management system for students to create a digital collection of their assignments, documents, videos and other materials that demonstrate academic achievement. The university is also working toward digitizing up to 10 million library books as part of the Google Book Search Project.
