2010 Winner Profile

BP

Project Description:
BP introduced a new safety system designed to prevent deaths at its Houma, La., maintenance facility, a three-acre warehouse. Using RFID tags, BP can now track the movements and locations of employees, equipment, truckers and visitors in the warehouse. When a tag moves out of its authorized area--if, for instance, a trucker moves into the path of a forklift--an alarm sounds and a safety supervisor is sent to remind everyone of the safety rules. BP says the system saves lives and can also be used to show who is missing during an evacuation. BP is now extending the system to track movement of materials and other assets.
