Samsung's new Gear S smartwatch sports a large 2" screen but its rectangular shape and wide band make it look massive on your wrist. The screen does have a slight curve which might offer a better fit for some users. The watch has a crisp Super AMOLED display at 360 by 480 pixels.

Rather than use Android Wear, the smartwatch employs Tizen, Samsung's own mobile operating system. And unlike previous watches from Samsung, the Gear S includes its own 3G radio, which means it will be able to receive updates and data without being connected via BlueTooth to a phone.

In addition to typical sensors like an accelerometer and gyroscope, the Gear S includes a UV sensor and Barometer.

It has a 300 milliamp hour battery, which Samsung says should last for 2 days under typical use and it's water resistant for 30 minutes at a depth of up to one meter.

The Gear S marks the sixth smartwatch that Samsung has introduced in just the past year. It's clear that the company is trying to overwhelm the competition, but it might just end up overwhelming consumers too.
