Intel is working hard to crack the challenging smartphone market. It's done well with PCs and tablets and now CEO Brian Krzanich is chasing an aggressive strategy to get its mobile processors into more handsets.

At Mobile World Congress the company rebranded its Atom line with an X3, X5 and X7 naming scheme. The new Atom X3 chip codenamed Sofia will go into smartphones, while the X5 and X7 will go into tablets.

Intel beat its goal of shipping 40 million tablets last year, but Krzanich wouldn't offer a prediction on smartphones for this year.
