Crossrail’s interim IT director Andrew Turner has taken the reins at Europe’s largest engineering project on a permanent basis. The former CIO as Hiscox insurance, Turner took over from Neil Farmer in September 2013 for the major railway link being built under central London which aims to connect 37 stations around the capital and consist of 21km of tunnels with the first trains due to start running in 2018. Turner’s responsibility is to lead the delivery of technology services and contribute to the delivery of an innovative new ‘Digital Railway’ with a “pioneering range of new technology innovations that are helping to advance the construction and transport industries”. Work on the Crossrail project began in 2009 after 35 years of planning.
