AstraZeneca CIO puts service desk in the cloud

AstraZenecaCIO Dave Smoley and his team have completed the integration of a cloud-based service desk for both IT and finance.

The UK and Swedish-based pharmaceutical giant has partnered with ServiceNow to provide a global service desk with high levels of self-service.

“Automating IT service management processes enables the team to be more flexible and responsive,” CIO Smoley said in a statement of the project that took four months to complete.

ServiceNow IT Service Automation provides AstraZeneca with a single platform and record to manage and resolve IT requests. During the project a finance request management and completion module was also developed and delivered.

AstraZenecaplans to further integrate application automation and reporting tools from ServiceNow, the vendor claims.

CIO Smoley joined AstraZeneca in April 2013 from Flextronics in the US, replacing Jon Kriby who moved over from a career in procurement with the pharmaceutical giant.
