Web users banking with Alliance & Leicester are being offered software that the bank says will protect against phishing attacks and fake websites.

‘Rapport’ anti-malware software from Trusteer ensures that any sensitive information customers enter into websites, including customers IDs and PINS, are protected from Trojans that could be hiding on their computer or on websites.

Alliance & Leicester also said the program, which works alongside your current anti-virus software, will protect against redirection to fake lookalike web sites.

Tim Brunt, head of internet banking at Alliance & Leicester said: “There are some very clever fraudsters out there wanting your information”.

“There are a few simple things that internet banking customers can use to protect themselves against fraud – download Rapport on the computers you use to carry out internet banking, install and use anti-virus software and ensure your computer firewalls are turned on.”

Alliance and Leicester customers can download Rapport from the bank’s website.
