Rugby governing body the Rugby Football Union(RFU) has again renewed a web hosting deal with Attenda for four years. Under the terms of the deal the London based cloud computing company will provide a managed hosting service for the RFU website.

Attendahas secured a four year extension to an existing relationship with the Twickenham based sports body which sees the RFU continue to use the Attenda RTI web hosting platform. RFU became an Attenda client in 2004 for its website which received 3.2 million unique visits in 2009, serving 36.4 million page views. For 2010 the RFU expects to see that traffic increase by 30 per cent.

The RFU site is used by the 1900 clubs that are members of the RFU to register players and collate match results.

Paul Vaughan, business operations director at the RFU said the second contract renewal with Attenda provides the organisation with “technology that can grow with our business and respond to the seasonal peaks in our website traffic as required, with a price per usage model that reduces our operating costs”.

IT chief at the RFU Rob Mackmurdie told CIO UKlast year that his strategy is to “make Twickenham the best stadium in the world”. Mackmurdie has signed deals with BT Openzone to improve internet access for the press at the stadium and Sunrise to improve IT helpdesk provision.
