Lunch at the Lanesborough

Apsleys is the flagship restaurant of the smart Lanesborough Hotel on Hyde Park Corner. Its dining room is decorated opulently in art deco style, with plenty of natural light.

The cuisine is modern Italian from a chef who previously held a Michelin star in Tuscany, and the food is attractively presented and light to eat.

The pasta is superb, tagliolini with lobster and almonds being one of my favourites. Carbonara fagotelli is another excellent option.

The attention to detail can be seen by the bread, all made from scratch in the kitchen. The desserts are some of the very best in the capital.

I have enjoyed several silky smooth chocolate desserts, and superb creamy cheesecake with perfectly executed lemon ice cream.

Service is formal and attentive, and although the wine list is quite expensive this is less of an issue for most business lunches these days.

Moreover there is an attractively priced (£25) lunch menu.
