Online luxury retailer NET-A-PORTER has appointed former Betfair Director of Development Hugh Fahy as its Group CIO. Launched in 2000 at the height of the .com boom NET-A-PORTER has survived and grown to be an organisation of 2,500 employees with operations in London, New York, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Fahy said in a statement he was looking forward to “the mentality of a start-up and the fire power of a global market leader”. As Group CIO Fahy is charged with changing the IT culture at NET-A-PORTER, bringing his experience of Agile development at Betfair to the e-commerce retailer. In his statement Fahy said they would be “doing IT the 21st Century way, by being unafraid to experiment and excel operationally”. At Betfair Fahy led a £25 million three-year programme to rebuild the trading platform working with CTO Tony McAlister. Prior to Betfair he worked for Betnow, Motricity and Vodafone, at the latter he deployed a new Service Delivery Platform. NET-A-PORTER has an IT team of 300 and has developed and operates the majority of its IT platforms in-house. NET-A-PORTER was acquired in 2010 by a Swiss luxury goods and jewellers business Richemont for £225 million. Two weeks ago CEO Mark Sebba announced he was standing down after leading the company since 2003.
