Albert Hitchcock has been appointed CIO at education publishers Pearson, meaning Vodafone has now lost its second senior IT executive in recent months after its UK CIO Mark Dearnley was made HMRC’s new chief digital and information officer in August.

Recognised in this year’s CIO 100, Hitchcock was Group CIO at the network from 2007 responsible for the IT teams at Vodafone and its operating companies around the world.

PearsonCEO John Fallon said: “Our technology backbone is fundamental to the company’s future as a truly global and integrated education company serving millions of learners all over the world.

“Albert joins a talented new leadership team at Pearson and brings with him an impressive track record as a talented technology leader. His expertise will be critical as we accelerate our growth in digital education services and in our most important global growth markets.”

Hitchcock, the focus of a CIO profile last year, takes over from Genevieve Shore, who was chief information officer and director of digital strategy. She is now chief product and marketing manager.
