Retainint the CIO title at the new role, Price previously worked at the Highways Agency for nearly five years, during which time the organisation signed a £75m outsourcing deal with Atos Origin to manage its IT infrastructure.

He has also held head of ICT roles at Siemens Energy and TNT, underlining an expertise in logistics systems.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency told CIO UK: “We wish Chris Price well in his new career move after five successful years with us. The intention is to seek a permanent replacement through the required recruitment processes. Good groundwork has been done and we are well placed to refresh our ICT strategy in line with changing needs”.

Price joined West Midlands Police on 14 March, where he will report directly to the chief constable Chris Sims. He is a member of the Command Team, which is the senior leadership team for the force.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: “As an active member of the force senior leadership team, Chris has been challenged to ensure maximum benefit and value for money from information services commensurate with the demands of the second biggest force in the country.

[He will focus on] driving efficiencies and value for money in line with the comprehensive spending review funding settlement to deliver a strategically aligned, effective, modern and robust information management and ICT service.”
