Credit: Network Rail Aidan Hancock has been appointed CIO of Network Rail, the owner and infrastructure manger of the majority of the railway network in the UK. His role makes him part of the Route Services senior management team, a department which consists of around 3,000 employees. As CIO, Hancock will take responsibility for supplying IT, including infrastructure and support services and will lead the delivery of Route Services’ customer-focused enabling technology. He will also oversee the department’s back office IT operations and help deliver a more efficient national service to Network Rail’s devolved route businesses. Prior to joining Network Rail, Hancock held a number of senior leadership positions at the oil and gas company BP where, over a 12-year career, he was appointed chief network architect and, most recently, CIO and vice-president of BP Middle East.
