Rob Fraserwill step down as IT Director of supermarket chain Sainsbury’s in April 2014.

Sainsbury’s confirmed to CIO UK that Fraser’s departure is his own choice and that the former vice president of CSC will leave the company at the end of the current financial year in April 2014.

Fraser has been IT Director of Sainsbury’s since July 2009, just as the retailer launched its non-foods online store, going head to head with rivals Tesco.

Last week Sainsbury’s announced first half profits had increased by seven per cent, above expected growth. The company said its online grocery division had seen sales rise by 15 per cent in that first half.

Fraser’s previous retail stint was as Group IT Director of Boots from 2004 to 2007. He joined Boots in 2000 as its director of shared services where he worked with David Lister, now CIO of National Grid.

Fraser studied engineering at Oxford and has an MBA from Middlesex University.

CIO recruiters Spencer Stuart are carrying out the search for Fraser’s replacement.
