Former Jaguar Land Rover chief technology officer Gordon McMullan has been appointed Head of Strategy and Architecture at Nuffield Health. Operating the Nuffield Health Hospitals and Nuffield Health & Fitness Wellbeing Centres, McMullan will be accountable for setting IT strategy and roadmaps throughout the non-profit organisation to meet its business transformation agenda. McMullan left JLR earlier this year to take up an interim CTO post at the Land Registry with overall responsibility for delivering the technology component of the organisation’s business transformation to meet the Government’s ‘Digital by Default’ and open data agendas. It was reported in August that McMullan’s had his contract terminated by the Land Registry for failing to comply with government policy over tax status, although the organisation had told CIO UK in April that McMullan was always on a six-month contract. Richard Lundie-Sadd, the Land Registry digital project portfolio director, told ComputerWeekly in August that the departure of the duo was related to government policy on engaging interim managers beyond a period of six months which requires them to be on full payroll rather than IR35, the tax regulation covering contractors who prefer to be paid via an intermediary Personal Service Company. Prior to joining JLR, McMullan was a global practice leader at CSC between 2009 and 2011. He began his career at IBM in 1996, before going on to the position of senior technical architect at ATOS, a company he stayed with for over nine years. McMullan has also worked for global advisory firm Deloitte, and in October 2013 McMullan wrote an article forCIO UK arguing that technology chiefs “need to escape the treadmill of routine maintenance so that they can drive businesses through next phase of evolution”.
