HealthShare New South Wales is set to implement a new technology platform in order to reduce IT costs and improve service levels. The services delivery arm of NSW Health has partnered with Oracle and will be using the vendor’s Exadata platform to build a database-as-a-service offering. This will provide a consolidated database and reduce its dependence on specialist database administrators. According to HealthShare NSW CEO Mike Rillstone, Oracle’s hardware was chosen due to its ability to process payroll data in approximately a quarter of the time possible with legacy hardware. “We identified a direct connection between the ability to reduce data processing times and increased efficiency of service centre operations and associated costs,” he said in a statement. “This project is in keeping with the department’s sustainable business solution approach and helps to ensure ongoing improvement, increasing levels of efficiency and greater savings for NSW Health.” Defence Housing Australia targets storage issue NSW Health Pathology seeks CIO to improve networks NAB rolls out Oracle banking platform The platform will be established in the NSW whole of government data centres with applications migration planned for December 2013 and full production status in 2014. The agency also recently rolled out Oracle’s E-Business suite to support the payroll and HR requirements of NSW Health’s 140,000 staff. This was part of a corporate IT program designed to consolidate its enterprise resource planning (ERP) requirements and improve security. For example, HealthShare NSW implemented a state-wide Oracle identity management system to enable single sign-on for all staff as part of the program.
