Pizza chain Domino’s has entered into an online content delivery partnership covering its corporate website, online ordering service and iPhone application.

The agreement with Akamai Technologies sees the continuation of Domino’s e-commerce presence through the delivery of content including the iPhone ordering app that has so far recorded 270,000 downloads.

Domino’s online marketing manager Michael Gillespie, said the relationship grew out of customer demand.

“Online sales have been gathering pace since we gave customers the ability to order over the Internet a few years ago. We built the iPhone application last year to give our customers the option to order pizza when they’re on the move at any time. We want to simplify the transaction for our customers, so we chose a reliable provider like Akamai to deliver the iPhone application, as well as maintain our website and speed up online sales,” he said.

The original website upgrade was rolled out in 2007 and gained popularity through its “anticipation clock”; a feature that shows how long a pizza takes to be made in real-time.
