Movers and shakers: Martin Catterall, Glen Willoughby and Ken Holley

Martin Catterall talked about the evolving CIO agenda at the 2014 CIO100 event.

Martin Catterall is now the CIO at HW Richardson Group, a privately owned national transportation and logistics company with headquarters in Invercargill. Before this, Catterall was CIO at St John.

Glen Willoughby is now general manager information technology at Downer New Zealand. He was previously CIO at Capital and Coast, Hutt Valley, Wairarapa District Health Boards. Shayne Hunter, a principal at Genesis Consulting, is now acting CIO at the DHB.

Ken Holley joins Fonterra as senior project manager – Salesforce CRM. Before this, he was business development manager at Liberate I.T. His previous roles included principal consultant at Fronde, technology sales consultant at Jasons Travel Media and head of technology at Localist.

Ben Morgan joins Accenture Interactive NZ as digital director. Before this, he was digital solutions and experience manager at Air New Zealand.

Orion Health expands its strategic management team to supports its global growth. After recruiting Johan Vendrigas CIO, the company announces two new members of the management team – Susan Anderson, managing director for Canada, and Robert Pepper, VP marketing, North America.

Samsung Springboard: Kiwi start-up CSx gets boost for global growth Kiwi start-up CSx wins the top prize in the first ever Samsung Springboard competition, after presenting the judging panel with their ground-breaking, high-tech system that tackles the issue of sports concussion, particularly in rugby players. The concept uses an integrated technology platform and sensor for concussion management and monitoring of real time head impact. CSx won a cash prize of NZ$30,000 NZ$10,000 worth of Samsung products, three Icehouse workshops and introductions to Samsung’s global ventures team. “We’re all passionate rugby supporters, so anything we can do to improve safety at a grass root level is a priority for us, says CSx Chief Commercial Officer, Martin Weekes. “If our technology can help save one child’s life on the sports field, than that’s a job well done. Hopefully this will also give parents the reassurance to encourage their children to participate in all the sports we grew up with. We need future All Blacks.” Six finalists got on stage at Auckland’s Maritime Museum to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges that included: Managing Director of Samsung New Zealand, Kenny Yeon; CEO of The Icehouse, Cam Wallace; CEO of PowerbyProxi, Greg Cross; Enterprise Director of Samsung New Zealand, Verdon Kelliher; and Dr. Michelle Dickinson (aka Nano Girl). Three special prizes were also awarded: I Measure U won a second place prize of three months tenancy at Kiwi Landing Pad and flights for two to San Francisco for their idea of wearable devices designed to provide athletes with measurements to enhance their performance. Auror, a platform created to provide better visibility of crime, was awarded the choice of NZ$10,000 Samsung development funding or NZ$10,000 Samsung technology. Winning the publicly voted People’s Choice Award was MediKOL, who took home NZ$1,000 of Samsung technology and a two-day workshop from The Icehouse.

Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce and Internal Affairs Minister Peter Dunne have announced a list of 12 telecommunications providers that have been selected to provide telecommunications and managed security services to Government. The All of Government contract will save taxpayers at least $20 million to $30 million within the first two years, the two officials said in a statement. “Agencies will be able to purchase these services on demand easily, with no minimum terms or volumes. This means they can focus on creating services that their customers want, rather than having to worry about owning, operating and maintaining large amounts of telecommunications equipment and running costly procurement processes. T his approach will drive cost-savings across government,” said Joyce. The panel is administered by the Government Chief Information Officerat the Department of Internal Affairs, and reflects the goals of the Government ICT Strategy and Action Plan. The list of providers are: Agile Integration, Aura Redshield, Security, CityLink, Cogito Group, Datacom Systems Wellington, Dimension Data New Zealand, Fujitsu New Zealand, Mobile Mentor NZ, SMX, Spark New Zealand ,Two Degrees New Zealand, Vodafone New Zealand.

The three-hour workshop was held at the Seafarers in Auckland.
