I started my first business in 2002 and now own, manage and run six businesses across NZ and Australia within the technology space, and more specifically in recruitment technology. What business technology issue is your organisation focusing on? Streamlining recruitment processes for companies across NZ and Australia and helping them to hire for competency, skill and experience in a fast, simple and cost effective manner. The days of managing candidates via an inbox are long gone so I am working on building technology that is affordable for all business sizes, enabling them to benefit from improved hiring processes. What are your interests away from work?Spending time with my husband, we love the outdoors, hiking, running marathons and triathlons. A long lunch at a winery and discovering new restaurants. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Remember to enjoy the journey as much as the destination. A very valuable piece of advice when creating businesses – a reminder to have fun along the way.People entering the market with a ‘big picture’ attitude should do well. Sharon Davies, Talent Propeller Professionally, who do you admire most? Anyone who has the courage and determination to go out on their own and make their dreams a reality. How long have you been working in IT? How did you get into IT?Since 2007, this was when I commenced development of Talent Propeller’s first e-recruitment platform. I identified a need in the market for SME businesses to have an affordable technology platform that supports them with their recruitment efforts, so I started building one.If you weren’t working in IT, What would you be doing?Building/renovating properties. I love building and creating so if not doing this in the IT space it would be in building and property. What are some of the emerging roles that you are seeing in ICT, and what are the business drivers behind these appointments? The market desperately needs more innovators and people who can bring ideas and concepts to life. People entering the market with a ‘big picture’ attitude should do well. Anything is possible in IT. So spend less time following the book and more time innovating.Send news tips and comments to divina_paredes@idg.co.nzFollow Divina Paredes on Twitter: @divinapFollow CIO New Zealand on Twitter:@cio_nzClickhereto read the Spring 2015 issue of CIO New Zealand Sign up for CIO newsletters for regular updates on CIO news, views and events.Join us on Facebook.Join the CIO New Zealand group on LinkedIn.
