Becoming a digital organisationDavid Spaziani will talk about how CIOs are rising to the digital challenge through bimodal IT.David Spaziani of Gartner at the 2015 CIO100 eventOne of the worst things a CIO can do is to delay bimodal delivery platform, according to Gartner’s annual global CIO survey. A bimodal capability that marries the rock solid with the agile is essential for organisations to survive and thrive in the digital era. CIOs, working with the executive team, are tasked to reset the business model to enable all business units, to apply this approach. For IT, the challenge is heightened as the model aims the ICT organisation to be in the mode of ‘transforming while performing’. Spaziani will distil lessons from organisations that are already delivering this bimodal capability, and even paving the way for multimodal operations. The killer app for today’s CIOsDawie Olivier believes the killer app for today’s CIOs has nothing to do with technology or widgets. It is the ability to transform the organisation –ICT and beyond–to be able to adapt to anything coming down the track. Dawie Olivier He will discuss how he applies this perspective at Westpac and in his other business technology roles over the past 15 years. The CIO’s innovation agenda Glen Willoughby, GM of IT at Downer will talk about the CIO’s innovation agenda – or how to envelop short term goals in long-run strategies.Glen Willoughby Willoughby will discuss the findings from a research paper on this topic he co-authored with Tom Soderstrom, chief technology and innovation officer at NASA-Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). Willoughby distils lessons learned from the NASA-JPL programme. He will zero in on how a new approach to technology innovation is being applied to the Mars Exploration Program. More importantly, Willoughby will show how this approach is being applied now in New Zealand organisations he has been involved with – particularly the district health boards, and in his current organisation, Downer.
